Submissions

At Length is considering submissions in four categories–Art, Music, Poetry, and Prose–from Monday, November 6, through Sunday, November 26. Please review the specific guidelines for each section below, as well as the more general guidelines that follow.

ART

The art section of At Length seeks art criticism (interviews, essays, and first-person narratives) as well as traditional submissions of artwork itself (all genres welcome: photography, painting, sculpture, drawing, mixed media, video, etc.). We also seek pieces that seem as though they require too many hyphens to plausibly describe, so if your piece—whether an autobiographical essay with segments of interviews, a series of ekphrastic poems and a photo essay, a review of an exhibition that takes the form of a sculpture, or some other hybrid altogether—does not seem to fit any of the above designations or seems to fit too many, send it to us. Of foremost interest are depth and nuance of thought and startling strength of vision. If a written work, must exceed 3,000 words. Please email as a Word doc or PDF to art(at)atlengthmag.com

MUSIC

At Length is open to essays, Q&A’s, and memoirs that touch on music, criticism, or even reported stories. We’re looking for pieces that writers are passionate about, on topics that speak to their individual tastes and quirks. The perfect At Length music piece is that story you needed to write that you never thought you’d ever realistically be able to find a home for. Minimum length 3,000 words. Please email as a Word doc or PDF to music(at)atlengthmag.com

POETRY

We’re interested in poems and sequences that are at least 7 single-spaced pages long. Please send a Word document or PDF to poetry(at)atlengthmag.com

PROSE

At Length’s prose section seeks complete short stories, essays, and longform journalism between 7,000 and 12,000 words. Please send a Word document or PDF to prose(at)atlengthmag.com

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Simultaneous submissions are fine, but be sure to mention it in the body of the email, and if parts of the work have already appeared in other venues, please note that as well and provide all relevant details. We will attempt to respond to all submissions within three months, and we ask that you only make one submission at a time. Submissions received outside of the November 6-November 26 window will not be considered.
